How to Write a Gig and Earn Quick Money with Fiverr

There are many places you can earn money online, you can sell on eBay, write on HubPages, or earn money in other places, so I was quite intrigued when I read about Fiverr on a friend’s blog. It is the place where you can offer to do anything for $5. What, I wondered, would people offer to do for $5?

I’ve seen Fiverr described as a huge social experiment and I was rather surprised at the range of things people are willing to do for $5. You can have someone text you for a week, have someone sing to you in Chinese, have people bookmark your site or even rent a 3 inch square of real estate for a year. The possibilities are as endless as the people who subscribe.

Having made money on eBay, and recently started writing on HubPages, I decided to check it out, and here are my initial impressions.

Firstly, just like eBay, there are buyers and sellers, although I think most people will be both. And just like eBay, Fiverr takes a commission. The buyer pays $5, but the seller receives $4 in his PayPal account. That’s 20% commission, which I thought was a little high, and definitely higher than eBay and Amazon fees. When you remove the $4, PayPal takes their commission. If you remove your money each time you get a payment of $4, you will be charged $0.42 in PayPal commission. You are advised to leave your money in Fiverr until you have a higher amount and then you will save on PayPal fees. If you do half an hour’s work for each gig you will be earning around the minimum rate of pay.

It seems a lot of people on Fiverr are already writing online, or at least aware of backlinks. A lot of people are offering to share your website with all their followers on Twitter, Facebook or other places. Some of them claim they will share with 10,000 followers or more. I wonder how many of those 10,000 followers would actually read the ad for my blog if the sender sends lots of paid for links.

Some of the gigs are funny, some will give you help with choosing a present for a loved one, you can have an avatar designed for you, or a dog behavior problem solved.

If you are looking for something, you can use the search feature. Most words I typed in the search feature came back with at least one gig.

Now you can never be alone, without someone to text or talk to. If you are stuck with a computer problem you can ask for help without paying consultancy fees. You can ask advice on any topic.

I set up an account less than a week ago. I thought I’d just put up 6 gigs to see what happens and already I have had 3 orders. I just joined Fiverr for fun to see what would happen, I really don’t see it as a long term means of income, but you never know!
