Guide to Tracy, California
61Tracy, in Northern California is a relatively new town. It’s a very family oriented city with many single family homes and about half of them filled with families with young children. Downtown has older homes and an older feeling. Once a year in September Tracy hosts the Bean Festival, 2 days of shopping, eating and dancing. Then in October they have an evening Wine Stroll. There’s a lot of wind in Tracy and consequently there are no tall trees. The wind comes from west to east so all trees above a certain height lean eastward before they fall over completely.
Tracy California Hotels
There are a number of hotels in Tracy including Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Extended Stay America, Best Western. Or you may consider hotels in neighboring Livermore. For a really nice hotel consider Hawthorne Suites, known as Hotel Livermore, on North Livermore Avenue, Livermore.
Where to Eat
There are many places to eat, seafood, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, pizza. It’s hard to pick a best restaurant in Tracy. There are many places to go out for dinner, restaurants of all kinds cater to a wide variety of tastes.
What to Do
For those who like Mall shopping, there is West Valley Mall on the north of the city. It has a movie theater inside the mall, just next to the food court. Also there is a carousel inside the mall. For a different kind of shopping, outlet stores are also on the north side of the city. Take the MacArthur Blvd exit from the 205 freeway and follow the signs. The old part of Tracy and downtown is around 10th Street. It’s pleasant to walk along and they have a farmers’ market every Saturday. On 11th Street, the Tracy Sports Complex is home to many softball and baseball tournaments.
Nearby
Tracy is surrounded by 3 major freeways the 5, 580 and 205. Tracy is between the Bay Area and the Central Valley. If you travel west for an hour you reach San Francisco. Stockton is half an hour to the north, keep going and Sacramento is an hour to the north. Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe are both 3 hours’ away to the east and north east respectively. Fresno is 2 hours south east.
Weather
The weather in the summer is hot with a lot of wind. When it gets to mid afternoon and the heat just about becomes unbearable, if you open the windows you can get a nice breeze. In the summer it’s often over 100, although with the wind it feels less. The winter temperatures range from 50 to 70 degrees with occasional rain. There’s usually no rain from May to November.
