How to Find Children's Items to Sell on eBay

Most eBay sellers are stay at home moms, so there are a lot of women’s and children’s clothing on eBay. Consequently, children’s clothing is one of the most saturated items on the market. But there is a way to still sell children’s clothes. Group the clothes up into many different makers, but all the same size. Then put all the brands and all the sizes in the title. If you sell Gap and Gymboree in one auction and put both words in the title, then those looking for Gap and those looking for Gymboree will find your auction. If, however, you put all your Gap items together and all your Gymboree items together, you will have half as many people looking at your auctions.

Before you photograph and list your clothing, think about shipping. Sometimes I list in one auction the maximum that will fit in a flat rate priority box, or sometimes I use the priority mail tyvek envelopes. I fill an envelope or box and then photograph and list.

Then after the auction has finished I know exactly how I’m going to ship it.

Lego

If you ever see Lego at a garage sale, then buy it. Sometimes you will find a brand new, unopened box, but usually you will find a mixed box of Lego that children have played with for years all mixed with other stuff. If you sort this and make sure it’s only Lego and no chewed or broken pieces, you can get more for it. Also the shipping is often high, so the technique is to fill a medium flat rate box, it can fit exactly 5 pounds. Then you advertise exactly 5 pounds of Lego and say in your listing that it’s good quality Lego and nothing else. Tell them that you have hand sorted it and you will get a better price. If you wait until November or December to list this Lego you can get around $50 a box.

Toys

Buy well known brand names such as Fisher Price, Little Tykes and Brio. If your toys are used they will sell for about half they will if they are new, so try and find new or nearly new items. Before you buy, think about shipping. I once bought a Little Tykes Cozy Coupe Car really cheap, but no one wanted it because the shipping was so expensive. It wasn’t very easy to wrap up, either. Don’t buy something where you have to buy a box or it cuts into your profits.

Boxtops for Education

Do you collect Boxtops for Education and take them to your child’s school? Many schools have competitions to see which class can bring in the most, so the parents buy them from eBay. When I first heard this I didn’t believe it, but I regularly sell Boxtops for Education on eBay. The face value of one coupon is 10c, I sell them in quantities of 100. Usually I start the auction at $9.99, or I put them in my store for $14.99. People will actually pay more than face value of the coupons so that their children can win the competition in school, now isn’t that crazy?

Broken Electronics

Broken electronics sell on eBay. Our Wii broke and I sold it for $70, I’ve sold Nintendo DS’s for around $50 and I’ve known others sell GPS’s. Just be honest, say sold as seen and no return and you’ll have a number of people bidding on it.
