How to List Magazines to Sell on eBay

I sell a lot of magazines on eBay and Amazon and like everything else, there's a technique. First, see if the magazines sell singly on Amazon. Certain single issues can sell for $25. Second, remember that magazines can't go media mail. People don't think so, but a pile of magazines is heavy. People think one magazine is light and hardly ever carry a pile of 10 or 20 magazines.

If you can't sell magazines singly on Amazon, it's not worth writing an ebay listing for single magazines, so the best way to list them is in lots. And the best way to ship them is in a priority mail medium flat rate box. The box will fit 10-15 magazines, so put the magazines in the box before writing the listing to make sure they can fit. If you are selling National Geographics, then you can fit 20 in the other shape medium flat rate box. The trick is to make sure they fit in the box before you write your listing.

I usually start the auction at $1 per magazine. So $9.99 for 10 magazines, $14.99 for 15 magazines, etc. Generally if I can't sell the magazines for $1 each, I don't bother listing them. Many magazines aren't worth listing singly, but will sell in lots. Magazines like Sunset, Good Housekeeping etc don't sell. I find the best to sell are craft magazines and men's DIY magazines. I've also sold sports magazines this way and children's magazines sell really well like this. If the children's magazines don't have adverts, they can go media mail. American Girl, nick Jr have adverts so have to go priority. Highlights, Discover, Veggie Tales can go media mail.

Lay out all the magazines and take one photograph. Then I list the dates like 3 x 2004, 4 x 2005 etc. I dont' bother listing the exact dates, if someone is looking for a specific issue then can email.

Then someone will email you and ask if they can buy one specific magazine and expect to pay $1. But if I do that I've made a $1 sale and I have to re-photograph and re-list the action. So, if someone wants just one magazine, my minimum price is $9.99 and shipping is usually in a priority flat rate envelope. People don't understand that one magazine costs $5 to ship, but 10-15 can be shipped for $10.

If you are selling 2-3 magazines, if they will fit in a flat rate priority envelope, then use that, otherwise the best way is a priority mail flat rate box. This will be cheaper than parcel.
