Ibiza is an island just off the coast of Spain, in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular destination for holidays and vacations and it has a lively nightlife. It has a rich history and many scenic destinations to explore as well as some really nice beaches where you can relax.

To get to Ibiza you can land at Ibiza airport or get a ferry from Barcelona, Valencia or other ports. Most people arrive in Ibiza by plane.

The best way to get around the island is to rent a car. Alternatively you can rent a motorbike or a mountain bike. In order to rent a vehicle you will need to have been driving for 3 years, have a credit card and have a driver’s license from your own country. Insurance is covered in the cost of the car.

Places to go and things to do in Ibiza

The village of San Augustin is a scenic place to visit. It is on the main road from San Jose to San Antonio. The church has been there since 1806. The unusual thing about the church is that it faces west instead of south.

Ibiza is full of beautiful beaches. In fact being an island, you are never far from a beach. One of the favorite beaches is San Caleta, which is 9 km from St Joseph. There are places where you can go fishing nearby.

There are cycle routes round the island going over 700 km, which include some passages on road and some purpose build mountain bike routes.

Ibiza, being in the Mediterranean, has many restaurants of multiple diversities. The people in Ibiza are passionate about fresh food and fresh fish is available in most restaurants. Also grapes are grown and made into wine on the island of Ibiza.

Ibiza is known for its night life and if often called the party capital, it is full of some of the best clubs and DJs from all over the world. And it’s not unusual to see a celebrity or two joining in the party one night.

Inland there are many charming places to explore. There are charming villages, lots of agriculture and architecture to visit. The best way to explore these areas is to park the car and walk, or rent a mountain bike. In fact the whole island was given the status of Heritage site by UNESCO in 1999.

ibiza seems to be a place of pilgramage for all young brits- they go to dance, for the music- meeting people from all parts of our country. I dont for one minute think they see the real island

I visited Ibiza in 1988 and was indeed a beautiful island.

It does get some bad press, because the capital can become very, very lively with nightlife. However, for those who prefer it quieter, it was, and probably still is, possible to visit the interesting San Antonio by day and visit calmer places in the evenings.

Portinatx was lovely when we stayed there!
