List of Books About Diets and Healthy Eating
59In my search for health I have read all these books and more. This list consists of the books that I liked. Some people may call them alternative, but in the 10 years since I've been reading books on health and diet I've seen more of the ideas in these books come into mainstream thinking. Perhaps the authors were a little ahead of their times, or perhaps they were the first to be right.
There are two books listed by Dr Mercola. I've been following his website, mercola.com almost since it started. If I'm unsure of anything medically that is the first place I go for advice. You can enter diseases and conditions into the search engine and read what Dr Mercola has to say about them. His webpage has helped me with a number of diet and medical issues.
Read the books and judge for yourself if we are on the right path with conventional diet and medicine, or if there is a better way of health.
Published in 2004, Dr Mercola was one of the first medical experts to suggest grains are not good for you. He aims to help people control emotional eating and food cravings and so adopt a healthy eating lifestyle. I've been following his plan since before the book came out.
The concept of this book is that God knew what he was doing when he wrote the Old Testament eating laws and if we follow his eating guidelines, we will eat healthily. Jordan Rubin suggests fresh organic food is best for us as well as no pork, crab or shellfish. He claims that by eating correctly many medical problems will disappear.
Having a healthy liver is foundational to good health. This book suggests ways we can detox the liver and so detox the body. It uses soups and raw juice recipes.
Having read Dr Mercola's first book I was stuck for what to actually cook. So I was very pleased when this book came out with many healthy grain free meal suggestions.
The message of the book is that we are each responsible for our own health with what we eat. She talks about the correlation between our thoughts and our health and tells us how to choose life by changing how we think.
When you read the other books on this list, you start to ask yourself, "Well, what can I cook?" This is a wonderful cookbook of healthy recipes. When you own this book you will no longer want to buy pre processed food from your supermarket's frozen section.
Julia Ross works to help people increase their mood and be free from food cravings. For people who suffer from fatigue or depression the solution may be dietary instead of medical. Both books start with a questionnaire to see what kind of problems you suffer from, pointing to where in the book to read for specific solutions.
The books are as good for advising you what to eat as they are for telling you what foods are bad to eat. There are also some recipes included.
This book covers everything you really don't want to know about how your burger is produced. From the farm where the cows grow to what goes into your burger to the overworked and underpaid teenagers who run the restaurants. The book talks about the history and growth of fast food and then how it goes from raw ingredient to burger. Seriously, you'll never want to eat a burger again.
This is a diet book that is unique and controversial. It's more than a diet, it's a way of life. It suggests under eating during the day and filling up at night. There are suggestions of food combinations to reduce body fat and exercises to match. There are a number of recipes in the book as well as many suggestions on improving your appearance, vitality and health.
The history of milk in civilization, the concept of pasteurization, how the dairy industry is run, this is what Untold Story of Milk is all about. It also talks about the growing trend toward raw milk.
Taking a holistic approach to health, Dr Clark says there is a root of all diseases and so there is a cure for all diseases. She says most humans have parasites and then tells in the book how to get rid of them. You are either totally convinced or reject what she says. She makes a lot of claims to cure many major diseases.
The title says it all, doctors don't tell you that many of their methods don't work, yet they keep prescribing them time and time again. This book gives you all the information you need to take your health into your own hands, along with many cures your doctor won't even prescribe.
Our bodies were not designed to consume junk food, have high stress lives and not exercise. Dr Ben Lerner says we should treat our bodies how God intended for them to be treated. He suggests we instill good habits which will lead to optimum health benefits. The book is full of good, practical suggestions how to implement these into our everyday lives.
