My 100th Hub, a Tribute to HubPages, Google and Amazon

By TinaAtHome

In celebration of my 100th hub from TinaAtHome, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to HubPages, Google and Amazon.

I’ve been writing here for just over 6 months and this is my 100th hub. I discovered HubPages in April 2010 and I haven't looked back since. Right from the start it was easy to work out how to write and upload an article and I’ve had nothing but help and advice from the HubPages staff. I’ve found the occasional thing where something didn’t work as I expected, but mainly the site is easy to use and free from bugs.

I’ve found the best way to write for HubPages is to aim to write one hub a day. Some days I don’t write one, but the last couple of months I’ve written over 20 hubs each month. The trick is inspiration. The last week when I have been getting close to 100 hubs it’s been really easy to be inspired to write. I schedule an hour or two each day and reserve it for writing, otherwise writing becomes at the bottom of my to do list. Writing, like exercising, has to be scheduled into my day for me to achieve the amount I want to do.

There are many places to write online and I write on a number of them, but in my opinion HubPages is the best. I’ve written more here than anywhere else, it does give me more money because of that, but it gives me more money per article too. I know 6 months is early days in online writing, but if how well the site works and the friendliness of its staff is an indicator, I think HubPages will stay the best place to write for a long time.

HubPages Marks the Spot

I took part in the HubPages Marks the Spot competition in September 2010 and wrote 12 hubs for that. The competition was well run and lots of fun. Simone took the time to comment on most of the hubs that were entered in the competition.

HubMob

Each week there is a HubMob run by Princessa. Most of the weeks I’m able to write something for the HubMob as the subjects are so wide it’s easy to find something to inspire me to write. Even if I get writer’s block (which I don’t) the HubMob would help me think of things to write.

HubCamp

I was very pleased to be able to attend the first ever HubCamp in San Francisco in September 2010 and meet some of the HubPages team as well as other hubbers.

Google

Getting to know Google Adsense hasn’t been as easy as getting to know HubPages. It took a while to get started and then I had a constant battle to discover how Analytics works. Finally, somehow, and I’m really not too sure how it happened, I can see the money I get for each hub individually. I am dreading a friend asking me how I did it, because I really have no idea.

Amazon

Amazon Associates was easier to get running than Google, but the first payment was messed up. They thought they had paid me and I knew they hadn’t and it took a LOT of emails to get that sorted out.

eBay

eBay turned me down to be an associate for them. I was a little miffed because I’ve been a powerseller for a long time, but I know I’m not the only one. At the HubCamp Paul Edmondson said he was currently talking to eBay and hopes more people will be able to become eBay associates soon, so that is good news.

Articles I have written

In my first 100 hubs I have written

· 18 about homeschooling

· 16 about parenting

· 14 about health and disabilities

· 10 about California

· 9 about England

· 7 about writing online

I have also written 29 hubs with the ID TinasTreasures about getting rid of the clutter in your life, and 11 hubs with the ID Cyber Scribe about getting started on HubPages.

My Best Articles

The Best Minestrone Soup Recipe article gets by far the most hits, but so far I have earned $0.53 from it. I wrote Electric Scooters for the Slightly Disabled to try and get some Amazon money, but it is my best Google earner. This just proves that the article with the most hits doesn’t get the most money.

What I’ve learned

Earning money online does take a long time and lots of patience. You can’t give up your day job and expect an income from this the first month. But persistently writing and letting your articles mature is definitely the way to go to see some income. One of the people who inspire me is thisisoli who has been doing this for a while and has given up his day job.

People I have helped

I have helped and encouraged a number of people get started on HubPages, as you can see in this hub.

The Future

I don’t see myself stopping writing on HubPages any time soon. The motivation is the money, but it is also fun. If it ever stops being fun and becomes a chore, I will stop. I hope HubPages stays online for a very long time and grows into an even larger wonderful community.

Is you don't have a HubPages account you can open one here. Then follow the hubs in order to get yourself up and running.

Congratulations on your 100th hub! I know what you mean about having to schedule time for writing. Being a stay at home, homeschooling mom is busy enough. I have not had the chance to write any hubs the past month and a half because we are still getting the kinks out of our homeschooling schedule. We are also trying a new homeschool program, so that is taking a lot of time. So, I need to get back to writing and get my schedule out! Thanks for insirping me!
