Restaurants on Main Street in Pleasanton, CA
79Pleasanton, California is an attractive town with a lovely downtown. Main Street is a mile long with many interesting, unique shops and restaurants.
There is nothing nicer than an evening stroll down the gently lit street while choosing where to dine. I hope this guide will help you with that choice.
On a Friday or Saturday it's advisable to reserve a table as many places are fully booked in advance.
The choice is amazing, Italian, Sushi, Pizza, Mexican, Mediterranean, real pub food as well as ice cream stores and home made chocolates.
In fact, our favorite is to go somewhere for dinner and somewhere else for dessert.
Pleasanton Main Street Brewery
This is a real brewery with a variety of beers and a great selection of pub-food. I like to go on the weekends when they have live music.
Oasis Grille Restaurant
Exceptional standard of Mediterranean food, but at the weekend it gets full and the tables are close together and it gets quite noisy. Lamb is rare to find on a menu in most places, but Oasis has three different choices of lamb on their menu.
New York Pizza
Pizza, salads and appetizers. You can buy pizza by the slice, if you wish, and ice cream is available too. New York Pizza will deliver locally.
Amarone Cucina Italiana
Authentic Italian restaurant, excellent home cooked Italian food and pleasant environment. When we went the owner was visibly involved and kept checking that everyone was happy with the food and the service.
Yolatea
Yogurt, Gelato and Tea make up Yolatea. It is located just off Main Street, opposite Towne Center Books. It's self serve frozen yogurt and toppings, and priced by weight. We've been there so many times I've designed what I think is the best frozen yogurt combination ever, cake batter and pomegranate frozen yogurt with English toffee, mint and tiny malted milk balls. Try it, or develop your own. They serve other things too, but I've never tried them.
Round Table Pizza
Pizza menu with appetizers. The dining area is quite large with extra rooms in the back that can be booked. They have a few game machines. It's great for parties.
Baci Cafe
Situated on a corner with seating inside and out. There is a wide variety of choice of Italian pasta, salad, seafood and steak dishes. The meals are delicious and the chocolate dessert is scrumptious. The service can be a little slow at times.
The English Rose
The best place to go for Afternoon Tea, just don't eat lunch before you go. It's just off Main Street on West Neal Street. I've been there three times now and every visit was perfect. Tea is served at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, so once tea has started no one is walking in and out and you can relax in a wonderfully decorated and peaceful atmosphere. I strongly suggest booking and then you won't be disappointed.
Haps Original Steaks and Seafood
Also on West Neal Street opposite The English Rose. Haps has good atmosphere and also has great food, what more could you want? Oh yes, they have valet parking too.
Gourmet Works
Not a restaurant, but definitely worth a mention. Home made chocolates and specialty kitchen items. And yes, I'm a regular here.
Stacy's
This is one of those restaurants that is so good everyone wants to go there and the only problem is that it's so popular it gets crowded. The food is at the higher end of both quality and price and sitting outside just adds to the charm.
Gay 90's Pizza
The best pizza on Main Street, the salads are really good too. They serve much more than pizza, but we've only had the pizza. It's very popular and you may have to wait, especially on weekends.
Fontina's
This is my favorite place to eat on Main Street. I like their wide choice of vegetarian options. The service is excellent and I've always had good experiences here.
Cold Stone Creamery
Near to Fontina's is Cold Stone Creamery, High Tech Burritos and Tully's Coffee. So you can have dinner, dessert and coffee all in one place. There's a nice seating area outside which is very often full.
High Tech Burrito
Fast, fresh and delicious burritos. Even the smell in the store is wonderful. I don't think I've eaten a better burrito anywhere. Prices are reasonable too.
Tully's Coffee
Excellent coffee with baked goods and sandwiches. You can relax inside in big comfy chairs or sit outside. The best coffees in my opinion are around the holidays, with pumpkin or peppermint.
Cafe Main
Gourmet Comfort Food, not as expensive as other places on Main Street, mainly burgers, pizzas, soup and sandwiches. You can go there just for a drink, or for a light snack. It looks small, but there is a lot more seating at the back, and a couple of tables outside. The room in the back has a TV. The garlic fries are the best garlic fires I've ever tasted.
Pastas Trattoria
Fine Italian dining in a great location. Excellent wine list, you can sit inside or out, just a little expensive in my opinion for what you get.
Main Sushi
This has recently changed ownership and is much improved. The menu is reasonably priced. I've heard the four seasons roll is really good, but I haven't tried it yet.
Nonni's Bistro
European food. As I write this they've only been open a couple of months and still haven't got their liquor license. They also have some new staff who I'm sure will improve with time. I love the variety on the menu and want to go back again soon.
Alberto's Cantina
Alberto's Cantina is a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. There is a good selection of food on the menu, but no children's menu. Outside seating available.
Agora Bistro
Greek restaurant. Good food and reasonably priced with charming decor. Lunch is especially reasonably priced. And the desserts are particularly scrumptious. Outside is especially attractive at night.
Blue Agave Club
Now here's a place with atmosphere, both inside and out. There are frequently musicians performing and often a large band. The food is "high-end" Mexican, with a huge variety. There is a large selection of tequilas and margaritas too. I went in a large group once and they did an excellent job.
Strizzi's
I went to Strizzi's once at lunchtime and was highly impressed. We went back on a Saturday night and it was just too crowded for me. We were a party of 6 and it was a little difficult to hear everyone in our party. I'm sure they could do something with the decor to make the noise a little less.
Having said that, I loved the food, especially the Italian ice creams. It is real Italian cooking, just how I like it. Also, if you dine early, before 6pm, there is a special reduced menu.
The Pleasanton Hotel
The Farmer Restaurant at The Pleasanton Hotel has now closed, so we are waiting to see what will be there next.
